Merger of Newmarket Road Surgery with St Stephen’s Gate Medical Practice

What does it mean for me?

Welcome to Newmarket Road Surgery

Important Patient Notice:

Women offered NHS Breast Screening after missed appointments

A number of women aged between 70 and 79 are being offered the opportunity for a breast screen after some women did not receive an invitation for a final screen, as part of the routine NHS Breast Screening Programme.

Most women can be reassured that they will have received their final invitation but all women under 72 years old who are affected, will receive an appointment letter from Public Health England and the NHS by the end of May 2018 informing them of their time and date.

Women aged 72-79, will receive a letter providing clear information on what to do next if they choose to have a screen and will be asked to contact the helpline who will link with their local Breast Screening Service to arrange an appointment and invitation letter on their behalf.

Women, aged 70 -79, currently registered with a GP, who do not receive a letter from PHE can be assured they are not affected and do not need a catch-up screen.

However, if you are not currently registered with a GP and believe you did not receive an invitation for a screen sometime between your 68th - 71st birthdays then we advise that you get in touch with the helpline

Helpline:  0800 169 2692.

Practice Half Day Closing - 23.5.18

Newmarket Road

disabilityThere is wheelchair access through the main surgery door at the rear of the building. Patients can be seen in a downstairs consulting room if they cannot manage the stairs.

We do have a small car park at the back of the surgery but it is not large and so there are very limited parking spaces.  It does get extremely busy, especially in the mornings, so if you can get to the surgery using other forms of transport apart from the car we would encourage you to do so.

The Practice is planning a new service to help patients find out more information from the many health charities serving Norwich and Norfolk.

Our Patient Participation Group (PPG) feels there is more that could be done to help sign post patients quickly and easily to the support services they may need.

We would like to use experience and knowledge to offer help to those who are perhaps coming to terms with their own or a relative’s new health needs or diagnosis.

In the first instance, we would like someone who can use Access database software to help the PPG create the database in the first instance.

If you can volunteer any help (we think about the equivalent of two days over a six week period) please get in touch.

Email in the first instance if you would like to find out more.

The vision is to create an advice service based at the practice.

Changes to opening times at Newmarket Road Surgery

Newmarket Road Surgery will now be closed between 13.00 - 14.00 Monday to Friday.  During those times telephone calls will be answered as normal and St Stephens Gate Medical Practice is open as usual.

This practice will NOT be accepting telephone requests for repeat prescriptions from Monday 4 September 2017. This is for reasons of patient safety, as more medication errors occur through this method of ordering than any other, and is in line with best practice advice from the Care Quality Commission.

Also any dropping off of repeat prescription requests or collecting prescriptions in person will need to take place at St Stephen's Gate Medical Practice and NOT Newmarket Road Surgery.

Please note there is no change to your nominated pharmacy arrangements if you have them in place.

  • Accessing our on-line service via the practice website.
  • Please go to St Stephen's Gate Medical Practice with 2 forms of ID ( one photographic and another with a valid address), and the receptionist will guide you through the process.
  • By Post – if you leave a supply of stamped addressed envelopes at St Stephen's Gate Medical Practice we are very happy to post your prescription back to you.
  • Dropping off your repeat order slip (attached to your prescription), with the items you would like to re-order clearly marked at St Stephen's Gate Medical Practice.  You will then need to collect your prescription from St Stephen's Gate Medical Practice
  • Many pharmacies operate a collection service from our surgery. Please contact your local pharmacy for further information.

.Named Accountable GP

All patients at the surgery are able to see any GP of their choice but each patient has a named accountable GP on their clinical record.  If you wish to know who your named GP is, then please ask at reception.  The named GP has overall responsibility for you but please feel free to request an appointment with any doctor who may be available.
